Free Cloud Backup Service For Mac

The best way to protect your files is through using any of our best online backup solutions and we have made a further selection of the very best cloud backup for Mac. Our favorite is Backblaze for several reasons, but plenty of others deserve mention, too.

Free Cloud Backup Service For Mac

IDrive also features a syncing folder like Google Drive or Dropbox making it a hybrid service. IDrive can be a solution both for backing up your computers and keeping them in sync. This even extends to your phone as IDrive offers an app for both iOS and Android so you can keep all your photos in the cloud (IDrive is one of our best online backup for photos picks).

The inclusion of syncing and sharing with the backup service makes SpiderOak a flexible all-in-one solution. Files can be shared from within the SpiderOak app using links. It is worth noting though that shared links will not be encrypted using a private key. Thankfully, SpiderOak does a good job.

SpiderOak is quite a bit more pricey than our first two selections, though both Backblaze and IDrive have the option to use a private key. The main feature you have to gain is a zero-knowledge backup that can also work as a sync service.

How are you? I am looking for a solution to backup using Time Machine o not to the cloud. I have about 10+ macs with Mac OS High sierra and later that previously backed up a NAS which is no longer available.I am interested in maintaining a backup of documents and the operating system in case it becomes non-operational. Could you please help me? Thanks a lot

The most important thing for me was the ability to backup to a local disk in addition to online. It is recommended by professionals that you always have 3 copies of your data: your computer, in the cloud, and local. I have two external drives that I alternate, with the other kept in a safe deposit box.

Next is Google Drive and OneDrive (sporting 15GB and 5GB of free storage, respectively), both notable for their great collaboration tools and integrations, but also for their lack of privacy protection. IDrive is next, which is technically an online backup service, though it has hybrid features such as a sync folder that gets it into the running here with its 10GB free plan.

Strong privacy laws from Canada (where is based) help to make it one of the most secure cloud storage providers on our list too. It has premium features aplenty, with a month of file history, password protection for your files, remote file wiping and easily accessible account logs available for free.

It takes the top spot on our best cloud backup services short list, due to its extensive feature set. You get 10GB of free storage space that scales up to 10TB on the paid plans, all of which are very cheap considering the amount of storage they come with.

This is the thing which happened to me . I was signed in a small cloud storage which after decided to end their service after 5 years. They sent me a email regarding that and i was sent a link for downloading all files or another was quite interesting. They were giving me WD disk with all my cloud files loaded in that at a discounted price. The service is big , so something solution may be figured out

Thanks for this list of cloud service providers. From what i can observe, it seems like you take your time to research the information. Good job and Kundos to you. I hope in the future when you revisit the list you may also want to include a service provider called They are running a sign-up promotion of 100GB. I just signed up with them so my take of their service is good thus far.

You just nailed it. Every single cloud storage service/app I use is on the list. I love Mega and Mediafire so much because of the simplicity and speed the service offers. Box and a few others are missing but the list packs just the best. Thank you!

Well, I understand you have seen Russia only on the map, because this is absolute bullshit. Yandex is a multinational company with offices all over the world and their services a widely popular in Russia. Yes, it is analyzing social media, like Google and Facebook do. But the most bullshit part is about imprisoning people for writing to social networks. Believe it or not, in this matter Russia has more freedom than US and many EU countries. Try to visit this country sometimes and stop spamming discussions.

I have tried some of these services, and now I only use Google Driver, because with 15GB of free storage I can sync multiple devices. I usually use 2-3 google accounts for 2-3 important directories. The total amount of backup I need is 20GB and for many gmail accounts I have enough storage space without worrying about losing important data.

I wont use cloud storage for long term items. It is not a good idea just to have that. I always use a external storage device at home. Cloud storage is good for sharing items thats about it.(Always use a backup storage device)

Contrary to what has been said in some comments, Hubic is closing down this year for private users and now only serves businesses. Too bad ! It seems you missed a newcomer in Europe, Internxt, a Spanish company which claims to be highly secure and offers a free plan with 10 Gb.Otherwise, I agree with you on sync and pcloud being real good.

You can tell that an article is fact checked with the Facts checked by symbol, and you can also see which team member personally verified the facts within the article. However, providers frequently change aspects of their services, so if you see an inaccuracy in a fact-checked article, please email us at feedback[at]cloudwards[dot]net. We strive to eventually have every article on the site fact checked. Thank you.

We didn't take a short-cut and create a Java app that can run on many platforms. Instead we wanted tocreate a product that felt integrated well with the Mac. So we built Backblaze's cloud backup forMac using Apple's Xcode and put the controls in the System Preferences using a native interface. Itdoesn't matter if you are running macOS 10.9 or higher, Backblaze's online backup service will workfor both.

Google re-branded its cloud storage offering as Google One in an effort to clarify that the space is shared between Photos, Docs, Gmail, and any other Google consumer services. The old name, Google Drive, now only refers to the Google Drive app, which is used for managing your online files.

The service handles all kinds of files with ease and uses 256-bit AES encryption to ensure that they remain safe while online. The basic tier comes with 10GB of free storage, albeit with the need to unlock 3GB of this via a few tasks, such as informing friend about the joys of pCloud. To be honest, this is not much of a drag, as your friends will probably thank you in the long run.

Dropbox will back up your photos and videos if you want, but the photo management experience is lackluster. While Dropbox was the go-to cloud storage and sync service ten years ago, it has since been surpassed by more robust, flexible, and affordable offerings from its competitors.

Every cloud backup service we tested is a pain to use for one reason or another, but we still recommend using one. A good backup system starts with a local backup but should end with a subscription to an online backup service. After years of testing, we think Backblaze is the easiest to use and the best cloud backup service for most people.

We spoke with a handful of tech journalists and colleagues before updating this guide to get their approaches to photo storage, and every one of them said they had hacked together multiple services in an attempt to back up their photos in as many places as possible. Whatever third-party option you use, we highly recommend ensuring that you have local copies that get included in both your physical local backup as well as your cloud backup.

If you delete a file from your computer, IDrive keeps it in the cloud backup forever (Backblaze keeps deleted files for 30 days, while Arq Premium lets you choose how long it stores them). Since IDrive holds on to deleted files indefinitely, and they do count toward your storage quota, they can needlessly fill up your available space.

To many of us, backing up a Mac means setting up Time Machine to make incremental backups and signing up to various iCloud services so that we can keep copies of photos, music, files and more in the cloud.

Finally, there are online services that will store your data on their servers, providing a secure offsite backup. When you initially sign up for an online service, the first backup will take a while, possibly several days.

CLOUD STORAGE is a way of storing data online instead of your local computer. It requires an internet connection in order to upload, modify, and share documents, presentations, spreadsheets, images, audio, video, etc. with others. Online storage service providers don't store any data on the hard disk of your PC. Cloud storage tools help you to access your data from any device."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"\ud83d\udcbb Which are the Best Free Cloud Storage Providers?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"Following are some of the best free Cloud storage providers:
